Why are lung function tests important in the diagnosis and treatment of COPD?

Lung function tests assist in the diagnosis and management of COPD. The tests used are spirometry, gas transfer measurements and lung volume measurements. These tests measure how well, and spirometry measures how much air, you breathe in and out of your lungs. Gas transfer measurements can show how well oxygen enters your body and how lung volume measurements show how much air you have in your lungs.
